I do …. always

My wedding ring which I like is a silver band. It’s simple and classic. I say like because I cannot say love. What is important is the meaning behind the ring, what it represents. It’s a wonderful reminder of the honor I get of being able to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.

So my husband surprised me this past week. He had my wedding ring inscribed. What I liked about this surprise also is it was just us. Before I continue I’ll try (try) not to have too many side rants or thoughts going on in the story because it’s a story that matters to me, but I can’t promise I won’t end with a quote from my favorite movie About Time.

I will not say what the ring says because there are some things that should stay between the couple. Let’s not forget the Mr. Wiggly awkward fiasco of 2010. If you don’t know who Mr. Wiggly please get on the YouTubes and watch The Guild. In my humble opinion it is a wonderfully, awesome witty show.

During the moment my husband gave me the ring, we realized one of the words was misspelled. It still made me happy because all I saw was the thought that went behind everything he did to surprise me. And I also look at it as a symbol to his dorkiness. Don’t worry its okay he knows I think he is a dork. That is one of the things that first attracted me to him.

We talked about the misspelling a couple of days later and he said while it still bugged him a little, all that mattered was how my face still lit up even after the misspelling. To which I said I am a warrior and an assassin I do not light up. Cue in Fooled Around and Fell in Love.

So the morale of the story here is when it comes to our significant others remember not just the big moments but the small ones. When you’re both on the couch (side rant: I guess depending on which you prefer or how you grew up you can also call it a sofa) reading a book. It’s those small moments that make the big moments special because you know a great big expensive gift pales in comparison to the love.

To some small moments may sound boring but that’s okay because every couple is different. For me what matters is getting to spend time with my best friend. I get to spend the rest of my life with the one I love. He is everything I never knew I wanted the first day we met. And everything I knew I was missing by the second day in what would be the rest of our lives.

“And in the end I think I’ve learned the final lesson from my travels in time; and I’ve even gone one step further than my father did: The truth is I now don’t travel back at all, not even for the day. I just try to live every day as if I’ve deliberately come back to this one day, to enjoy it, as if it was the full final day of my extraordinary, ordinary life."

No Time for Love Dr. Jones

Have you ever watched a movie, tv show, or read a book and thought really? You have to profess your undying love now!

Of course No time for love Dr. Jones comes from India Jones, but I think this phrase can be used for any movie, tv, book scene in which the bad guys are about to attack, someone has just been brutally injured, the apocalypse is about to occur…you get the picture.

So I thought I would go over those favorite moment that make me shout “no time for love Dr. Jones!”

Post script, I really do like these movies, shows, and books. Otherwise I don’t think I could be so ‘no time for love Dr. Jones’ on minute, then that was awesome the next.

Orphan Black. You know the scene when Paul say that Beth wasn’t the one I loved. Okay yes, he turned out to be the hero everyone was hoping for. And yes I’m sure some people swooned when he said that. But me I was thinking about the Castor Clones, Mother, oh yeah and the fact that everyone is looking for Sarah.

Mockingjay, Part I when Gale talks about how the only time he can get Katniss’s attention is when he is in pain. Actually I guess the Hunger Gamer series in general. Okay yes, you can’t help but feel bad for the guy. Who has not been there? When you like someone and they know you like them, but they are not sure how they feel about you. But you still hope they like you, they just haven’t realized it yet. But it’s not exactly the same because you don’t have some crazy government trying to take over everything.

The Delirium series by Lauren Oliver. To be fair it is based on a society in which love is a disease. But is the middle of a fight between the government and the rebels a good time to fight over a girl? Yes she kicks but in her own right, but can we wait until after everything settles down first, like the battle?

There’s even a ‘no time for love Dr. Jones’ moment in WALL-E. Yes WALL-E. When WALL-E risk his battery life to save the plant. Then EVE forgets about her directive to show WALL-E she cares about him. Then WALL-E is insistent and says ‘directive’ and you’re already crying because you keep saying “he’s gonna make it right?” Then EVE finally understands the directive will also save WALL-E.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Two words. Anakin and Padme. First let me say I LOVE Star Wars. But when I watch this all I can think is if someone is out to get me, I think my last thought would be of romance. Knowing me, I would be too busy asking, What was that? Did you guys hear that? Do I know that person who is staring this way? Can you go to the store for me? Cause I need to be incognito.

If all this has thought me anything. It is I guess Indie should take a page from Han Solo’s book and kept it short and to the point. Two words that’s it. “I know.”

Charlie come back!

I don’t think I am committing a spoiler alert crime by saying I like many other cried when we saw Charlie died on Supernatural. I love when Felicia Day guest stars on Supernatural. Her, Jared Padalecki, and Jensen Ackles have a natural chemistry. Get it natural? Just kidding. It’s a bit of a cliché or whatever to say people have natural chemistry, but its okay, I like cheese. And this statement is true. Of course the fan in me is like does anyone really die on Supernatural? I’m looking at you Sam and Dean.

I know from conventions, etc most of Felicia Day fans come from Buffy. But I come from a little YouTube sensation, you might have heard of it, The Guild. Okay Sorry about that, I did not mean to sound like Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons there. After watching the first episode of The Guild, that was it. I was like Felicia Day is my hero!

If you’ve read any of my past blogs I wrote one called My Husband’s Geeking Out verses My Geeking Out in which I tell the very short story (because it all happened so fast) of how I met Felicia Day at a Dallas Fan Days and told her “I love you. You’re my hero.” Then I proceeded to run off. It was like I just said something nice about you, but I can’t stick around to talk about because I got to go uh… see you moment.

On a side note I am trying to get better at that. I mean at Star Wars Celebration I did say it is nice to meet you to Mark Hamill. That’s progress right? She said looking around the room waiting for an approving look. I mean I did not run off after I said it. So … I am going to say, progress. Eh, who am I kidding I am an introvert by nature.

When I first started watching The Guild. I tried to talk to work friends who liked gaming and YouTube about Felicia Day, and I would get who is Felicia Day? …… I know right? That’s a lie that I am even listening to, to begin with.

I am not here to act as though I know Felicia Day on a personal level because I don’t. I only know what I experience from Fan Days and SDCC. Hmm …  I guess I should put Comic Con into context. A couple of years after my Fan Days experience my husband and I were at the Geek & Sundry Lounge. He just started his blog and when he went up to Felicia Day and gave her his business card, and she said thank you for taking time to give her the card.

So back to what I was saying from my experience and talking to other convention goers Felicia Day is a down to earth person. She genuinely is herself. She does not pretend to be something she is not. She also cares about the people who come to meet me her.

I know that Felicia Day (sorry I am not sure why I keep saying her full name like that, anywho) has a lot of great movies, shows, and YouTube creations to her name. Which is why we need more people like Felicia Day in the world because they represent the geeky, nerdy, creative, etc dreams of others and the best of us.

IMHO. And if I can be real for one moment. To be who you truly are is a scaring thing. Felicia Day is not afraid to say how she feels or what she thinks. She is my hero is because in a world where people pretend to be something they are not or hide behind the keyboard, there is this person who is saying this is me.
