I’m not sure. I have not written anything in a while so I thought I would just write. So I don’t know what this will be about. Maybe about nothing. I am just going to think of it like a vlog … you know without the video part. And the YouTube part.
So the other day I was watching one of my favorite movies. I can’t say it’s in my top 5. I tried to do that with music once, make a top 5. Turned into a top 100+. But it does not take away from it being a favorite.
Sorry for the side rant…oh the movie. Begin Again. I wrote a blog about it once. It is one of the best movies. Two words John Carney. Two more words, Mark Ruffalo. This movie has heart. So if you have not seen it, warning this may be a spoiler.
There is part in the movie where Gretta (Keira Knightley) goes to see her ex-boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) play at a concert. After they of course have broken up. Gretta is hesitant to go see Dave play not just because of the break up but because she wrote a song for him called Lost Stars (psst it’s on the YouTube) and Dave has let the studio take over the song and make it very pop.
Anyways I always have this argument in my head. Gretta goes back stage and sees Dave singing. I away think she is crying because it’s over but yesterday when I was watching it I was thinking is it because Dave singing it as a ballad, then when he started feeding off the crowd he started singing it all pop like and that’s when she is crying. So I think Gretta is crying because Dave has turned into a rock star and in the end that is what he cares about. Then I said stop analyzing Melissa and just enjoy this bittersweet scene as it was meant to be enjoyed.
Speaking of bittersweet, or just a moment. I have been watching Doctor Who backwards starting from Series 8 and then going back. This time I decided to follow the Ponds story. So here I am enjoying the Christmas Carol episode and my husband tells me that Doctor Who will not be back until 2017. Okay yes I saw the recent article about Steven Moffatt, but I guess just like most things I refuse to believe it. Sometimes I just like being in denial I guess. Perhaps in some cases ignorance is bliss? But we mustn’t dwell on bad things. Doctor Who will come back.
Speaking of Doctor Who I changed my ring tone last year. On occasion I like to change it to something new. The last time I changed it to I Am the Doctor. And I don’t think I want to change it back. Because confession when I hear it ring it makes me feel like I should be running around wearing a fez. I wish I has a TARDIS. One thing I would definitely do is make all my vacation last forever.
And another Doctor Who thingy. I saw Legends of Tomorrow. Who am I kidding, they had me at Arthur Darvill. I like seeing him travel through time again. I know, I know it’s not the same show. But he had a space ship that travels through time! And space! And his name is Rip Hunter! Rip Hunter, time traveler. Hmmm… I suddenly feel like making business cards.
Since this blog really does not have a story or anything, I will just end it here. See ya, wouldn’t want to be ya. Remember when people used to say that? Man, we had some cheesy sayings when I was growing up. And how come no one says wizard anymore?
End of line.

I just do
I think there are all certain movies
that we like to watch. You know the kind of movies when everything on the DVR
has been watched they are some of our go to movies because we like them.
I think our go to movies and shows
fall into two categories. The first are a everyone in the house favorite like
Star Wars, Doctor Who, Edgar Wright movies, Pacific Rim, etc. because they are
awesomely awesome. The other category is one I’d like to talk about today.
This category is called the “really
again” “again? I haven’t seen it in a long time” movies. Other times they are
the
“You like that movie?”
“Yes, I do”
“Why?”
“I just do.”
Today I thought I would share some of
my movies that fall into these categories. These movies are not guilty
pleasures because it should not be a guilty pleasure to like movies or music
that make you feel good. #ThereIsaidit
I apologize that was probably a bit
defensive. But seriously, I don’t think anyone should feel embarrassed because
they like the movies, tv shows, and music they do. And for me sometimes there
is no reason I like certain things because I just do.
Queen of the Damned. I know, well in my opinion, I know it’s not the best movie in the
world. But I like it. This is one of my I just do.
Daybreakers. In
2019 an outbreak has turned a majority of the population into vampires. Ethan
Hawke plays Edward Dalton, a hematologist trying to find a blood substitute because
the human population is decreasing and he also wants to avoid human extinction.
Without enough blood, the Vampire population is being to deteriorate and get
desperate to the point of feeding off other Vampires and themselves. PS: 2019
is not too far way guys. PSS: I know it’s just a movie.
I like Daybreakers because it shows the other side of being a Vampire. You
know the not so awesome part of immortality. Aka the no sparkling in the sun
part. Plus there’s the one gnarly part of the movie where the vampires drink Frankie
Dalton’s blood and then they get cured, then the other vampire drink their blood,
then they cured, and so on.
Moving away from the Vampires,
another movie I like is Fanboys. I
was excited when I saw the preview in the movie theater. Then I don’t remember
seeing it play in my city, and if it did was it only one day? Seriously where was
it? I’m just glad when it came out on DVD, I was able to find it. If you like
Star Wars and Sam Huntington, you need to see Fanboys.
Sam Huntington you guys. You know aka
Jam from Detroit Rick City? Josh
Levison in Being Human. Huntington
plays Eric Bottler who reunites with his old high school friends. They decide
to take a road trip to break into Lucas Ranch to see Episode I of Star Wars. Who
can’t relate to that especially now with the new Star Wars movie only about two
months away … sorry I cannot tell a lie. Two months is a long time!
One of my favorite things about this
movie is all the Star Wars references they are not the type of references that
are thrown in the movie just to be in the movie. You know what I mean? It’s
like when you read a book or watch a show and they throw in an X-Men or zombie
reference just because. I apologize that is more of a side rant than why I like
Fanboys.
So with the Star Wars references come
the arguments. Like when Windows (Jay Baruchel) tells Linus and Hutch (Chirs
Marquette, Dan Fogler) “You guys both got to stop perpetuating this myth that Boba
Fett is some kind of bad-***. All right? He has a jet pack. So did the
Rocketeer. Really cool. When it come time for battle, the man’s Michael Bay -
all style, no substance.”
Or when Hutch is having a heart to
heat with Eric. “Greatest deed Luke Skywalker ever did was take down the Death
Star, right? AS far as I’m concerned, that’s what everybody needs. You need
that one bad-*** thing that lets you love forever, you know. “
I just realized they say bad-*** on
more than one occasion in this movie. I am not a prude, I just prefer movies
that do not have swear words in 98% of it. And if you know anything about me I
really don’t curse IRL. Sorry another side rant. The point is, it’s a funny
movie and at the heart of it, it has friendship.
Another movie in this category is You Got Mail. Talk about old school.
Part of the movie features AOL. Kids back in my day AOL was what the internet
was all about. If you were lucky enough to afford a computer more than likely
you had AOL. Or Net Zero. Net Zero, anyone?
Anywho. One of my favorite things
about this movie is Tom Hanks. And it’s also just a fun early 90s type of
movie, IMHO. Speaking of the Hanks family if you have not seen it I would catch
up on Life in Pieces with Colin Hanks. As I am watching this show I am
thinking, he reminds me of Tom Hanks with some of his mannerisms. But then
later I am just thinking Colin Hanks is funny. So is Zoe Lister-Jones who plays
Hank’s wife on the show. There is not one scene they have done together where I
did not laugh out loud.
So the morale of the story, don’t let
anyone have the power to make you feel like you are weird for liking certain
movies or tv shows. As Felicia Day says “Embrace your weird.”

Random thoughts about things I’ve always wanted to say from a movie or show
Have you ever said to yourself after the fact, I wish I would have said this? Or stare at a blank Twitter screen and try and think of a play on words? It happens to me a majority of the time. Usually when it comes to a blank computer screen after about 5 seconds I say aloud, “I’m done!” Because once I start to over think it, it’s not funny anymore.
There are some things I have been able to say because of timing. I shared one in my last blog in which my husband said my face lit up. And I replied I am a warrior and an assassin my face does not light up.
There was a Scott and Ramona moment my husband and I shared a while ago.
Me: I’m going over here to read for a while.
Husband: Then I’ll be all alone.
Me: You’re not alone. You’re just having some idiotic dream.
Husband: Does that mean we can make out.
Me: …
Wait a minute! Most of my perfect timing happens the most when I am with my husband. I guess that is what happens … wait for the cheesiness … when you marry your best friend … there it is.
Perhaps I should take a cue from The Doctor and make cards for when there are other occasions. So I thought I would share some of those waiting for the right moment quotes in no particular order, and mostly just because I like these quotes.
Today. Today … At the edge of our hopes, at the end of our time, we have chosen not only to believe in ourselves, but in each other. Today there is not a man nor woman in here that shall stand alone. Not today. Today we face the monsters that are at our door and bring the fight to them! Today, we are canceling the apocalypse! – Stacker Pentecost, Pacific Rim
I am not sure when I would use this outside of the apocalypse, and after a slow motion walk into the room. Maybe as a go get them team speech? I love that speech. Let’s face it I love Idris Elba.
I do admit there are some of his movies I have not seen. For example any movie where he plays the villain. I think he is an amazing actor but after watching Luther my brain just cannot accept him as a villain. Not gonna do it. I made the mistake of watching Losers once, don’t get me wrong IMHO Chris Evans was hilarious in it. But I kept believing Idris Elba’s character was going to be like I’m just kidding guys I was doing a double, double cross. See my brain can’t do it. Denial.
Okay it’s another Stacker Pentecost quote, but you guys Idris Elba. It’s a really good one for an “I’m not messing around moment.” One: don’t you every touch me again. Two: Don’t you ever touch me again. Now, you have no idea who the hell I am, or where I’ve come from, and I’m not about to tell you my whole life story. All I need to be to you and everybody on this dome is a fixed point. The last man standing. I do not need your sympathy or your admiration. All I need is your compliance and your fighting skills. And if I can’t get that. Then you can go back to the wall that I found you crawling on. Do I make myself clear?
My interest in what you are talking about is low to moderate. –Vork, The Guild
In the context that this quote is used it is funny. I like Vork. He is my spirit animal. Well Vork is my spirit animal when I am grumpy. Oh and when I need to channel my dry sense of humor. Codex is my introvert but still kicks butt spirit animal. Admiral Ackbar is my spirit animal when I am suspicious. You know that I got a feeling someone is watching me moment. I’m not the only one that gets that feeling. Right? *She ask nervously.*
I don’t want to be just one thing. –Four, Divergent
Okay I have not read these books, but who could have missed the previews when the movie came out. I have never said it out loud. But I often think this when someone says oh you’re a Trekkie, a Whovian, a nerd, a this, a that. I like a lot of things, hence the “I don’t want to be one thing.”
In the words of Delenn from Babylon 5 – “Then I will tell you a great secret, Captain. Perhaps the greatest secret of all time. The molecules of your body are the same molecules that make up this station, and the nebula outside, that burn inside the stars themselves. We are star stuff, we are the universe made manifest, trying to figure itself out. As we have both learned, sometimes the universe requires a change of perspective.”
I am not sure if this blog as a point. It’s all just random thoughts. But I guess if there is a morale to the story. It is as The Doctor says, 900 years of times and space and I never meet anyone who wasn’t important. So like what you are going to like … to thine own self be true.

I’m not sure what this blog post is about
Yet again I have gone another two
weeks without writing anything. My last reason was because of the holidays.
This time it is because well I’m not sure other than too many books to read,
and shows to watch. Sometimes I wonder if my procrastination for writing comes
from the fact that I sit behind a keyboard IRL. But who am I kidding it’s
mostly the books and tv shows thing I want to do.
So speaking of things to watch,
Mockingjay Part I comes out this Friday! To answer your question yes, I have
been on a Hunger Games movie marathon today. Today was a very SciFi , dystopian
movie day in the House Of Cooper. If you have not seen the Comic Relief with
David Tennant and Catherine Tate, you need to. That’s all I’m going to say get
on the YouTube and look it up.
Even though it was a SciFi day today,
I stayed away from the Trek. I was telling my husband the other day, I don’t
think I’ll be able to watch the Trek for a while. Even though we know the
ending, and the movie in its entirety will not change. Some of the magic seems
like it won’t be. I will leave it at that because for each person that feel in
love with, and will fall in love with Leonard Nimoy, it will have a different
meaning. I just wanted to put that out there into the vast ocean of the
internet.
Speaking of vast ocean of the
internet. Well just vast ocean. Do you ever have those days where you feel
uncool? Like you’re just plain weird? Those are my favorite and worst days to
have. Favorite because you know that well as Moss would say, “Weird’s all I
got. That and my sweet style.” It also lets you bring something different to
the table. Even though some people will stare at you and ask “who is Felicia
Day?” “What is Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along-Blog?” or say “I have never seen
Firefly” “I don’t watch Doctor Who.”
And it’s the worst day because you
feel like no one gets it. No one gets you. It’s kind of like the times in
middle school when you hear people whispering and you think it’s about you.
Maybe it was. The important thing to remember is I don’t think anyone can
honestly say I never have a day where I feel, meh. Just remember you are not
alone. With that last sentence I guess I was not as done as I thought. I was in
talking about Nimoy because I think that is what brought this on. Just the
feeling of those days when you feel small, but in reality you are part of a
bigger community than you know. Whether it’s SciFi, books, certain tv shows, it’s
always a bigger place than you imagine it was. Yes, sometimes it takes a while
to find your peeps, but you will.
Okay I am not sure if my ramblings
are making sense. And hopefully it does not sound like I am standing up here on
a soap box. These are just thoughts that have been moving around up there in my
brain. I guess I wanted to finally put it on paper so to speak.
Oh before this long side rant I was
talking about Mockingjay. So yeah it comes out this Friday. First of let me say
….. Hunger Games! Second, why release it on a Friday. I guess I am wondering
why so much because normally new movie releases around here come out on
Tuesdays. Although I am pretty sure the interwebs know something I don’t know.
Because let’s face it. I am always late to Tweet about a show that just
finished airing two, three, four days ago. But in my defense I cannot Tweet
while the show is going on. I just can’t. I like to watch my tv shows in the
moment. And sometimes it’s because I have to have a good cry afterwards like
when the last episode of Parks and Rec aired this past week.
So in conclusion. Nope, there’s no
real conclusion here because it was just all random. I will end this on one
more note though. In a recent interview Leonard Nimoy tribute I saw there was a
clip of an interview he did, where he mentioned the live long and prosper Vulcan
greeting came from a blessing he saw at a Hebrew ceremony. Then he said so when
people do this to each other *he gives the love long and prosper symbol* they
are really blessing each other. Me personally, and again I hope it does not
sound too soap boxy, I think that’s awesome.

My thoughts after reading A Thousand Pieces of You
My thoughts after reading A Thousand
Pieces of You by Claudia Gray
A Thousand Pieces of You was released
November 3, 2014 so hopefully I am not spoiling too much of the book for anyone
who has not read it yet. So what is this book about you ask. Well … I don’t
know why I am talking like that. Hopefully my thoughts don’t get jumbled into a
big ol’ summary of the book.
Before I get into the book, can I
just say this is one of the most beautiful book covers I have seen. Well… I
guess that not really fair for me to say since I think all book covers are
pretty. Well… except for the book covers that are reprinted with the movie
poster. It’s nothing against the movie, or the book. But it makes me feel like
saying it was a book first people! But at least more people will fall in love
with books.
Any who, enough of the wells and
buts. The wells are not my fault. All my wells I’ve learned from watching
Doctor Who. Major spoiler alert here, so cover your ears. The main character
Marguerite Caine is jumping dimensions chasing after Paul Markov, the guy who
murdered her father. Well allegedly murdered her father. (Sorry that is the
last well … maybe) Her and her parent’s research assistant, Theo are both traveling through different dimensions. Yeah, I guess you call Theo and Paul
that. I won’t get into the minutia of their titles. (@DimesnsAndGalxs I did it,
I used minutia)
One of the things that I did like
about the jumping dimension story is when the characters would jump from one
parallel universe to the other is they would jump into their other selves’
body. Huh? That did not make sense after I typed it. So when Marguerite goes
into a parallel universe instead of two separate hers she jumps into the alt
Marguerite’s body. Essentially she is taking charge of the other Marguerite’s
life etc. The same goes for Paul and Theo.
The characters are able to jump from
one parallel universe to the next with a device called a Firebird. With the
Firebird they are able to jump into the alt universe and remember who they are
and why they are there. Yes, to answer your question they do have to keep the
Firebird on at all times. Or else they will forget who they are and will become
lost in that dimension.
I will admit, and I mean not to
offend anyone who loves the book, but when I first started reading it I sopped
for a day or so because it started turned into a love story. I was like hey
what happened to the Sci-Fi stuff?
So when I picked up the book again,
with an open mind this time. It started to make some sense. One other interesting
thing about the jumping dimensions is they will always end up where they
belong. For example Marguerite always ends up in a version of her life where
her family is with her. In this case
having a “love story” is needed to illustrate the point about Paul’s belief in
fate. No matter which alternate universe Marguerite jumps to her version ends
up finding Paul. Who (even more major spoiler alert) is not the murderer.
A major part of the story is in
Russia around the 1800s ish give or take. In this universe Marguerite is a
Grand Duchess and Paul is a Lt. and her personal body guard. Don’t roll your
eyes just yet. Yes, it does turn out that the Marguerite that was their before
the main character Marguerite took over has feelings for Paul. But in this universe
Paul has lost his Firebird to his commanding officer for being out of uniform,
so he begins to forget everything. Her mother has passed away due to
complications from giving birth, but her father is still her birth father. He
is actually Grand Duchess Marguerite’s tutor.
I know it kind of seems typically
love story, until I read two words that made me say what? Paul dies. Then I was
like yeah my Sci-Fi, well at least nonlove story is back. It’s not until you
read later more of the book Paul got back his Firebird and was able to jump
into another dimension. Then it turns into another love story and end with a
love story.
Get ready for another spoiler, it
turns out Paul was trying to save Marguerite from Wyatt Conley, the CEO of an
evil corporation who wants to jump dimensions to steal technology. Conley is
after Marguerite because she can naturally remember who she is with or without
the Firebird. And it turns out since Conley has spies everywhere the Theo she
has been jumping universes with is not her Theo but a spy.
A Thousand Pieces of You is the first
book in a trilogy. Hopefully I did not sound like I didn’t like it. I did like
it. I mean who does not like a good love story from time to time. Right?
Anyone? My only wish was it could have been a little more Sci-Fi. Perhaps the
second book will have more Sci-Fi and the first book was for character
building. #SecondChances
